The laboratory of Prof. Dr. Oliver Schilling at the Institute of Surgical Pathology, University Medical Center Freiburg, Germany, is an interdisciplinary and multinational group specializing in mass spectrometry-based proteomics applied to diverse research questions in cancer biology. Our research focuses on applying and developing novel methods in proteomics to understand the molecular mechanisms driving cancer progression and identifying new targets for treatment. We are looking for
PhD Candidate in Mass Spectrometry-based Cancer Biology (m/f/d)
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our team and contribute to our cutting-edge research in mass spectrometry, cancer biology, and personalized medicine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects aimed at elucidating the molecular pathology and risk stratification of cancer and translating findings into clinical applications. We offer a well-funded laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometers (timsTOF fleX, Q-Exactive Plus) and liquid handling pipetting platforms (Bravo and Opentron robot).
Benefits:
- access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources for conducting cutting-edge research
- access to benefits such as Hansefit, Jobticket
- ample opportunities for scientific publishing, conference presentations, and professional development
Responsibilities:
- establishment of targeted methods (PRM-PASEF) for translational proteomics
- analyzing and interpreting complex datasets using R scripts aiming at understanding cancer biology and identifying potential therapeutic targets
- conducting experimental research using mass spectrometry-based proteomics techniques to analyze patient cancer samples
- collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate proteomic data with other omics and clinical data for comprehensive analysis
Qualifications:
- a Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacy, chemistry or related discipline)
- very good scientific writing skills and fluency (both oral and written) in English
- prior experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and cancer biology research is highly desirable but not necessary
- proficiency in experimental techniques commonly used in molecular biology is a plus
- strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to independently troubleshoot experimental challenges
- excellent communication and teamwork skills
The position (65 %) is available as of April 1st 2024 for 3 years initially.
