The Combined Effect of Carbon and Nitrogen sources on
Lipid Accumulation in T. oleaginosus
Trichosporon oleaginosus is considered an oleaginous micro-organism for its ability of accumulating more than 20% lipids of its dry weight. Upon nutritional starvation, this yeast is capable of lipid production up to 50% of its dry weight. Optimization of lipid accumulation in T. oleaginosus by varying growth conditions, stress factors and random mutagenesis is an ongoing task. Additionally, the elucidation of lipid accumulation mechanism of this yeast is currently in progress in our lab through discovery proteomics.
Responsibility and Tasks:
The applicant is responsible for:
  • Culture preparation in sterile conditions
  • Lipid analysis via various methods (Relative and absolute quantitation)
  • Fatty acid analysis to evaluate the effect of carbon and nitrogen sources in culturing media
  • Statistical analysis of aquired data
Suitable candidates are preparing for a Bachelor in Biology, Biochemistry, chemistry or equivalent fields. High team spirit, adequate communication skills and a high level of self motivation and independency are key to accomplishing the set tasks. Previous experience is an advantage.
