PhD Student
 
in Immunology & Single-Cell Genomics
 
 
Our research focuses on T helper (Th) cells, which coordinate cellular and antibody-mediated immune responses to a variety of pathogens. While several distinct Th cell subsets have been described in the past, new research indicates that Th cell differentiation is characterized by a considerable degree of flexibility and plasticity. In this project, we aim to dissect the cellular and molecular requirements that drive the very early events in the differentiation of T follicular helper (Tfh) cells, which represent the prototypic Th cell subset that provides help to B cells for efficient antibody responses (J Immunol 2011, Immunity 2013, Nat Immunol 2013, Nat Rev Immunol 2013, Curr Opin Immunol 2014, Methods Mol Biol 2015, Trends Immunol 2016). To this end, we will combine cellular and molecular immunology techniques with cutting-edge single-cell genomics and computational biology approaches to answer these fundamental questions in in vivo models of autoimmune diseases and viral infections.

Applicants should hold a Master’s or equivalent degree in Immunology, Cell/Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Computational Biology/Bioinformatics or similar and should have a strong commitment to research and to a scientific career. Previous experience in (single-cell) genomics and computational biology/bioinformatics, NGS data analysis and programming expertise, molecular biology techniques, basic immunological techniques, cell culture and/or in vivo (mouse) experiments is expected. Good communication skills and fluency in English are required. Starting dates are flexible. We will consider applications until the position is filled.
